Jincheng Park International Design Competition
Christopher Groesbeck as Jury and Mentor

The "Jincheng Park International Design Competition", hosted by Chengdu Municipal government, Chengdu park urban construction administration and the Greenway Construction Company, came to a perfect conclusion recently. Mr. Groesbeck was invited to participate in the event as one of the seven international judges and mentors.

With the Topic of "Greenway, leading to tomorrow's Park City", this international design competition openly recruited 21 groups of young architects from all over the country to design the plots of 7 individual buildings in Jincheng Park. In the future, these seven works will land in Jincheng Park, making the design a reality that citizens can touch. Through this competition, architects from all over the world gathered in Chengdu to discuss how to shape the texture pattern of the city, activate more economic forms and promote urban renewal.

This world-class "architectural experiment" in Chengdu will have a far-reaching impact on architectural creation in Chengdu and even China, just like the “Weissenhof Siedlung” in the suburbs of Stuttgart, Germany, initiated by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in the 1920s. More importantly, this speculative and practical architectural experiment has stimulated citizens' positive thinking on larger issues such as architectural innovation, urban design and green ecology.

Plot 2, guided by Mr. Groesbeck, was finally won by the work "Playing Garden" of all architectural studios. "Its design is very natural, like a part of the greenway itself, so that it seems to exist there." Groesbeck commented. The design concept of the work "Playing Garden" believes that the core of Chengdu life is "play". Fun, leisure and relaxation are the prominent themes of this building.
